Dubai Sports City is the first of its kind purpose built sports city in the world, with four stadiums, and a purpose built golf course."The Els Club" at Dubai Sports City was launched in January 2008. The course was opened by the creator and golfer himself, Ernie Els, ranked 5th in the world and the former
Open and US Open champion. "The Els Club" is the first completed venue at Dubai Sports City and also the first The Els Club in the world. Ernie Els has been involved in the design of golf courses in Africa, Asia and North America but now a brand has been created which will hallmark the extra facilities and involvement created by Ernie and his team. This will only be stamped on a select number of the developments. As this is the first "The Els Club" development, Ernie Els will be showing his commitment by having a home on the complex and where he will conduct his international business. "The Dunes", as the course is called, will be the epicenter of the residential golf community called Victory Heights. Due to the inevitability of such high profile residents, international schools and medical facilities are to be created alongside hotels and a shopping destination which will be a sports-themed retail mall with a leasing capacity of approximately 1.2 million square feet.
